After a week of waiting for him to come on his own (which he didn't), my doctor decided to induce me. The date was set for August 14th. The hospital called us bright and early at 5:45 a.m. and told us to come in at 6:45 a.m. They started me on Pitocin about an hour later and then the waiting began. I moved really slowly. And I don't think it's very nice that all they let you eat is ice chips because I was really hungry.
About 6 hours in we got a scare. After a really hard contraction I had 2 nurses run in and put a bunch of monitors up me. They also made me wear the oxygen mask. When they finally filled us in they told us they were worried because the baby's heartrate kept going down after strong contractions. So they turned my Pit down and gave me an amnio-infusion to get the baby's heartrate back up. Once it seemed that he was ok, they turned the Pit back up and my contractions started again. But then his heartrate went back down and so did the Pit. We played this game for the next 6 hours, all of which I spent on oxygen and Zac spent staring at the monitor.
Finally I was fully dialated and effaced. After what seemed like the longest labor ever (12 1/2 hours) I had a very short delivery (20 minutes). I was glad because I don't think I could have pushed for 2+ hours like they told me I might. After a very long day, Beckett finally joined us at 7:42 p.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz. and was 20 in. long. We love every bit of him!
We feel so lucky that he got here safe and sound. We also feel lucky that we have a very easy baby. The kid does not cry--he just makes dinosaur noises. He has my eyes and Zac's nose and more hair than we thought he would. To us, he is perfect.

Not my finest (or favorite) hour (or should I say hours)

P.S.-- Can you believe we don't have a single picture of the three of us together?! How did we manage that?
